There is no “I” in the word “team.” I bet you’ve heard this old adage before, and I think it is particularly important for Doers to remember. As Doers, it’s easy to feel like you are carrying the whole world on your shoulders, that without you everything you and your team are working toward would simply fall apart. But think again…
As I’ve written about in previous blogs, getting things done takes cooperation—not just dedication and drive. We get so much more accomplished when we surround ourselves with a great team, and let them take the lead where they excel.
So today I want to share an article about the extraordinary outcome that happens when like-minded Doers comes together with purpose and commitment. Anson Dorrance and the US Women’s national soccer team did just that in the 1990s. They won the inaugural Women’s World Cup in 1991, and they achieved even more than they could have imagined in just 10 short years.
By the end of the decade, they had set records in women’s soccer, compiling 155 wins, and closing the 90s with a victory over China in the 1999 World Cup final. This is an incredible achievement for a fledgling American sport. It proves the saying I mentioned above.
Read about the amazing triumph of the US Women’s soccer team and the philosophy that propelled them to glory . Let their story inspire you to do more than you think you can, by surrounding yourself with other Doers who share your vision and determination.
