The other day, I was in kind of a funk. All day, my business dealings just seemed a little raw and more difficult than they should have been, even though I kept trying to climb to 35,000 feet. I kept telling myself to pull up, pull up! Instead, it was just one of those days that kept pulling me down.
So, I went to the beach, to walk in the sand, to see if I could get grounded. Then suddenly, I saw I had missed a call from an unknown number in Northern California. I just picked up the phone and called back. What I didn’t realize was that I had scheduled a call with this individual that had been cancelled during the week do to a power outage. The call had been rescheduled for this particular afternoon at 4 p.m.
I had never met this person, and was referred by a friend who said that we should talk. So we proceeded to talk. The person told me about their professional career and also — much more difficult — about their personal side. When it came out, it was perfect. A touching story of the relationship between mom and siblings, and upon mom’s passing, embarking on a new path.
The voice that was talking to me had such a positive vibration that I wanted to hear more. It resonated with me in a crazy, unusual way. Net, it was getting me out of my funk. I basically felt like I was actually lifting off the sand and into the blue sky. I was lifted to a new level by this unknown person, and for the first time that day I was flying on a high-flying disk… And it felt wonderful. This totally-by-chance (or totally directed) call turned my entire weekend around. Now, thanks to this person I was back on my game and feeling great. Things were back in the swing. Thanks, thanks!
The interesting part of this conversation was that when we where done, the person said thanks so much to me for speaking with them and asked what they could do for me. I said, you have already done more for me than you can imagine! And that they had already had an incredible ripple effect on my weekend, and for that, I was so grateful.
So, who can you take time today to visit with to lift their spirits? Who do you know that might be in a funk? Or, if it is you, who could you call? Someone that just the vibration of their voice you enjoy listening to.
This was a great reminder of how, in our business lives, we really need to understand the importance of each other’s inspiration and each other’s positive vibration –even if it’s just a spoken word to a colleague. When we run into people in our business lives who are down or we can feel their negative vibration, maybe just our voice (and the fact that we are willing to listen to them and talk with them) will lift their vibration up. Just asking them how they are and how they are doing could be enough. Listening is really powerful after you ask the right question.
One of the things I am very concerned about is the potential for negativity in the corporate work world. I feel we need to really be conscious about this and use tools like “pull up to 35,000 ft” now more than ever to lift all of us to a higher vibration.
Oh, and I want to reemphasize that this is the second part of the zen proverb. After chopping wood, in 2steps2success, carry water. Or, help someone out of their funk or negativity in the workplace or at home… This is the definition of carrying water. Carrying water everyday means helping someone out in some little way every day. Maybe it is just a spoken word to a friend or colleague.
I am so thankful that this unexpected call at 4 p.m., while I was walking on the beach, brought me the water that a thirsty traveler needed to be able to write this blog and stay at a higher vibration
Rock On —
